Community involvement and education

A community garden would bring people together.

We know that there are a lot of people unemployed in our local area. This means that lots of people will not have jobs to go to, and may stay at home throughout the day.

Community gardens can bring people from different backgrounds (age, culture) together with a similar intreset - food. They will be able to meet new people and neighbours. Working together as a community improves peoples wellbeing because they are able to interact positively with others. People who work and help in community gardens are proud of what they achieve to help their community. This can also help reduce crime rate in the areas.

Community gardens can provide education.

Urban communities usually buy their food from supermarkets or eat from fast food restaurants and takeaways. This means that people don't always understand where they get their food from, and how the food is produced. Building a community garden, and involving different members of the community can educate people on healthy food, and how it is produced. People will learn about the health benifits of fresh nutritious food which will benefit our future food systems.
