Hokusai was a Japanise artist and printmaker during the 'Edo period' (1603 and 1867).

He created his art by using wood cut printing. He created his prints by carving blocks of wood with an imagine. The woodblock was then covered in ink and pressed onto paper. 

His most famous painting is called 'Black Fuji', and it was created in 1823.
